Trip Report: Nature Walk at Mangar – Aravalli Biodiversity Exploration
Date: 27-07-2025
Location: Mangar, Aravalli Range
Organized by: Delhi Earth Walks (Asian Adventures)
The day began early as Tushar, Pawan, and I reached Mangar Police Chowky at 6:00 AM. After a brief interaction with the participants and distribution of Asian Adventures caps, the group set off from the Chowky at 6:20 AM.
At 6:30 AM, we met Mr. Sunil Harshana, our expert walk leader for the morning. Following a short round of introductions, we commenced our walk into the lush Aravalli landscape.
The walk began with an interesting sighting—a Papdi (Holoptelea integrifolia) tree that housed the nest of an Indian Scops Owl, setting an exciting tone for the rest of the morning. Mr. Sunil shared in-depth insights into the Aravalli’s unique dry deciduous ecosystem, introducing us to key native tree species such as:
- Palash (Butea monosperma)
- Dhau (Anogeissus pendula)
- Roheda (Tecomella undulata)
- Papdi (Holoptelea integrifolia)
- Pasendu (Diospyros cordifolia)
As we walked deeper into the trail, we encountered several notable bird species, including:
- Indian Pitta (a vibrant summer migrant)
- White-bellied Drongo
- Rufous Treepie
- Common Hawk Cuckoo
Butterfly sightings added a colorful touch to the morning, with species such as the Common Leopard and Orange-tip making appearances, along with many others.
The walk concluded at 9:15 AM with a group photograph and light refreshments, leaving all participants enriched with knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the Aravalli’s biodiversity.
A truly immersive and educational experience for all involved.
