Bats have been a lesser-known species in the state, often overlooked when themes such as conservation are discussed. To bridge the gap of this disparity, Asian Adventures, along with the Global Wildlife Fair and Delhi Tourism, organised an evening Earth Walk at the Nehar Sahibi Farm. The curiosity amongst the participants was such that even during the evening time, and keeping in mind the remote location of the farm, the participants turned up in a huge number. When the walk leader asked the participants one by one what first came to mind upon hearing the word "bat," the discussion began. The replies thereafter were a mix of inspiration taken from the fantasy tales and the common misconceptions that people have about bats. Some claim them to be the distant cousins of Dracula in sucking blood, while some state they do not come out in the sunlight, as that would be the reason for their death.

After sharing a hearty laugh at all the out-of-the-box responses, the leader started addressing them one by one, stating why such a conversation about this species is important. People are unaware of the presence of bats in the state, so we cannot expect them to work towards their protection either. Next, the participants were out on the farm and started looking for bats and tracing if they encountered any. As luck would have it, on the previous bird walk at the farm, 2 species of bats were seen, and this time 4 different species of bats were recorded at the farm. This became the highlight of the walk as well as a milestone for Earth Walks. The bats were spotted nesting inside the dry branches of the palm leaves. The participants also learned about the usage of the bat detector and how it can be an essential tool to be used in bat conservation. After a successful stint searching for the bats, the participants moved inside the farm for a presentation on bats.

This informative presentation shed light on the various species of bats that are usually found in the region. The best part of the presentation came when the walk leader shared how bats help the ecosystem and become an important component in the sustenance of the food chain. Thereafter, the participants again shared a laugh when the presentation covered the myth vs. fact section, as many of the stated myths were actually being said by the participants towards the beginning of the walk. After understanding the behavioural pattern and the hunting patterns of these species, the participants were bubbling with a lot of questions, which they asked the walk leader.

With this, this successful walk ended with the participants requesting more such walks to be organised and even requesting such workshops to be organised during the Global Wildlife Fair. Earth Walks over the years has tried its best to increase awareness about the species we are sharing the information with the people about.
