Himalayan Birding and Wildlife Tours in Uttarakhand During the Monsoon

Date: 18 Jan 2026
Location: Jungle Lore Birding Lodge
Trail Leader: Kundan Kumar
Trail Theme: Tigra Baba - Trails of history, stories, and ecology
Trail Coordinator: Jagjeewan S. Dhami

Tigra Baba emerges as one of those places where a one-of-its-kind combination of history and ecology can be seen. To understand the significance of a place of so much importance, not just amongst the local people but also on an ecological level, Asian Adventures, in collaboration with the Global Wildlife Fair, had organised an Earth Walk to explore this very region. A group of nature and history enthusiasts met at the designated location of Jungle Lore Birding Lodge and began the walk around 8:30 am. Walking towards Tigra Baba, the walk leader explained that the coexistence and dependence of nature and history on one another can be seen here.

As the group approached the site of both cultural and ecological importance, they began to observe and question whatever was around them. Their queries ranged from the kind of plant life found here to querying about the myriad species of birds that visit the area. People were also inquisitive about the best season to visit this place. These questions were duly answered by him. Thereafter, he explained‌ the ecosystem of the place, from the kind of mammals found here to the general behaviour pattern of the birds dwelling here. He even guided the group on how to trace a bird and recognise which one it is.

The most interesting part of the walk was the rapid-fire round about the medicinal properties of various plants that the group were spotting on the way. The identification of the butterflies that inhabit the area was another topic that had everyone’s attention during the walk. Tigra Baba finds infinite mention in the local Kumaon folklore and the mythological tales of Uttarakhand‌. People who had read these texts could recognise the places and where they were mentioned in specific texts. Tigra Baba can be seen as a world in itself, from the ecosystem that it contains within itself to the stories and the characters that make this place come alive.

Overall, the walk was an immense success, where people understood how much importance a place can hold in the lives of people and ‌ be of ecological importance as well. The walk ended around 10:30 am, and people were infused with a sense of preserving and protecting these biological places so that the next generation can also have places that connect them to their ancestors, as well as have green environs that make this planet a better place to live in. You can ‌be a part of these walks and make the best ‌of your Sunday. To join us, Click here https://asianadventures.info/p/af0725/
