The evening of 21 December had set the perfect setting for the Earth walk in Sunder Nursery. The enthusiastic participants had met at the entrance gate of the nursery, and the walk began with the walk leader giving a brief insight into the history of the place. However, the old route disappeared when the British came, and the nursery was once a link. In modern times, the existence of places such as Sunder Nagar the connection between the two places via Sunder Nursery, is further lost. Yet the nursery continues to exist with all its beauty, most of which was restored in 2007 after a pact was signed between the Archaeological Survey of India and the Aga Khan Trust. The participants were fortunate enough to spot the Indian peafowl at the very beginning of the walk. Multiple questions were then asked about whether specific trails exist in the nursery or if it is through experience that one has to spot the birds present here. Another prominent question was how to differentiate between peacocks and peafowls, which was answered by the walk leader.

Next to be spotted on the list was the house sparrow. An interesting fact was shared here that the little one is actually the state bird of Delhi. The very next minute, as luck would have it, the group spotted the Black Francolin, which is the state bird of Haryana. This is the beauty that one gets to experience when one visits places that witness the amalgamation of the various states, and this was duly admitted by all present there. As the Red Munias appeared in sight, questions started arising among the first-timers about how to identify them. The identification mark for these birds lies in the silver bills and the dots that are present on them.

As the walk proceeded towards its end, the astonishing creation of the avian community was seen - the bird nests. The intricate design and the minute detailing that contributed to the creation of this abode of the birds were noticed. A discussion also included the efforts in making a nest, and its techniques, like the location, building, and material used, so that one could identify which bird it belongs to. The walk ended on a high note, but the curious spirit of the people did not as they headed towards the surrounding areas to see more birds that dwell in these areas.

The walk was a hit success, with people enjoying both the view and the high enthusiasm that the walk leader brought along while carrying out such a knowledgeable venture. You can even make your Sundays memorable in the best manner by joining us and being a part of this bird tracing venture.
